Sharon sends first letter

Friday, 12 June 2009 4:27 P GMT+02

Dear Prayer Partners,

To update you on Sharon Ohlin's progress:  She was able to send out a letter to the parents of the children at the school where she is currently teaching.  That was 40 families!  Please pray that God would give her favor in their eyes, and that many would commit to support her prayerfully and/or financially.  One of the teachers she works with just told her that she would like to support her financially.  Praise God.

Again, once all the paperwork at the mission is completed, she will be able to send out a letter to everyone who was on her mailing list back when she was last a teacher at the International School of Budapest, about 6 years ago.  Pray that this could be accomplished quickly.

Thank you for standing with Sharon through your prayers!

1 Thessalonians 5:24 “Faithful is He who calls you, and Hewill also bring it to pass.”

Do Hard Things

Wednesday, 10 June 2009 9:56 P GMT+02

So, have you read this book?

 Do Hard Things

"That's a book for teens," you say.  "Why would I want to read that?"

I first heard about this book when I stumbled across the website www.therebelution.com.  Twin teens Alex and Brett Harris are motivating teens to fight the low expectations set for them by society and to do something great.

I'm half-way through the book and am finding it interesting on a number of different levels.  It does a great job of outlining the things that hold teens back.  It gives ideas of how to throw off these restraints.  And it gives examples of what "hard things" might look like.  It does all this within the context of examples from the lives of real teenagers.

But not only does this book help me understand teens and possibly how to encourage them, but I am finding applications for myself as well.

If you are ever held back by feelings of inadequacy or fear; or if you are tempted to fall back into a complacent attitude; or if you ever let the opinions of others decide what you will or won't do, then I think you'd be encouraged by this book...whether you're 15, 25, 65, or 105.

Many great quotes too, from teenagers, yes, and also from adults like Corrie ten Boom, Smith Wigglesworth, Theodore Roosevelt, and CH Spurgeon.  And remember...I'm only half-way through this.

Buy this book.  Read it.  Then pass it on to a teen in your life.

Update on Sharon Ohlin

Tuesday, 9 June 2009 12:45 P GMT+02
This is just to update you all on Sharon's progress.  She needs to raise her support within about 2-months' time.  Right now she has $145/mo raised of a $2000/mo need.  The support that has been raised so far is from people who have heard via word-of-mouth as Sharon hasn't been able to send out an appeal letter yet.  She must receive her official acceptance from United World Mission and an account number before she can send the letter out.  Thank you for your prayers for her.  Please continue to pray that UWM could process her acceptance and account number quickly, and that her letter would generate the support she needs.

Pray, Pray, Pray!

Our wonderful school is facing a bit of a crisis.  We have no teacher for the 4th or 5th grades for next year!  There is a possibility that the 3rd grade teacher would be able to teach both 3rd and 4th as a combined class, but that still leaves us with no one to teach our 5th-graders.

What to do?  I hardly need to explain how important a 5th grade teacher would be to all the missionary families who will have children in the fifth grade next year.  Also, those students from international families who have been in our school learning English will have to come up with a "Plan B" as well.

As a school we've been praying, asking God to work a miracle to bring someone forward to teach this class.

Two weeks ago we heard from a former teacher of our school, Miss Sharon Ohlin.  She said that she feels that God is leading her back to Hungary and work at our school!  You should have seen the face of our school Director when we told him that!  What a happy man. This seems the answer to our prayers.  And yet....

Sharon lives in New England.  It is a particularly difficult place to rasie support.  Her church has turned away 6 missionaries in the past 6 months.  She was told that the other churches of that denomination in her area aren't allowing new missionaries to even come and present their ministries because there is no support available for anyone new.

But "all things are possible with God."

Will you pray?  We desperately need Sharon and she desperately needs financial and prayerful support.  If you are willing to commit to just 5 minutes of prayer each day for Sharon until her support is raised, will you write me and let me know?  It would be a GREAT encouragement to her to know that people are praying.  I will update you on her situation as she updates me.

Sharon

Sharon is planning on going out with our mission board again, as she had when she was last taught at our school.  If you or someone you know is interested in supporting her, please let me know by leaving your email address and I will pass that on to Sharon. Or you can write me at marthajill@gmail.com.

Thank you, thank you.  God is great and He loves responding to our prayers!

FAMILY FIELD DAY!!!

Chilly temperatures and rain were predicted by the local weather forecasters, but as you can see, the Lord gave us a glorious day for the year-end event at ICSB.

Thank you to Hannah Schnake, fellow UWMer and faculty member at the school, for these lovely photos.

It was fun all day long.  By the end of it most everyone was either soaked from the waterballoons or sunburned or both.  It was a great day.
