Do Hard Things

posted Wednesday, 10 June 2009

So, have you read this book?

 Do Hard Things

"That's a book for teens," you say.  "Why would I want to read that?"

I first heard about this book when I stumbled across the website www.therebelution.com.  Twin teens Alex and Brett Harris are motivating teens to fight the low expectations set for them by society and to do something great.

I'm half-way through the book and am finding it interesting on a number of different levels.  It does a great job of outlining the things that hold teens back.  It gives ideas of how to throw off these restraints.  And it gives examples of what "hard things" might look like.  It does all this within the context of examples from the lives of real teenagers.

But not only does this book help me understand teens and possibly how to encourage them, but I am finding applications for myself as well.

If you are ever held back by feelings of inadequacy or fear; or if you are tempted to fall back into a complacent attitude; or if you ever let the opinions of others decide what you will or won't do, then I think you'd be encouraged by this book...whether you're 15, 25, 65, or 105.

Many great quotes too, from teenagers, yes, and also from adults like Corrie ten Boom, Smith Wigglesworth, Theodore Roosevelt, and CH Spurgeon.  And remember...I'm only half-way through this.

Buy this book.  Read it.  Then pass it on to a teen in your life.
